Farzana & Steven

The semester before I started grad school, we decided to travel to Europe. We had a the most amazing time traveling throughout European cities, its countrysides and enjoying the culinary cuisines of each region. We immersed ourselves with the different cultures and met so many wonderful people along the way. One of the funniest memory was when Steven would freak out when water and coke was served to him at room temperature, no ice included! Another fond memory, we would go on our tours each morning, and he would buy me a cup of tea and a samosa to enjoy for breakfast. One our last day in London, we had huge fight, I don’t even remember what we fought about, but I remember on the way back a bird pooped in my hair and it made everything even worse! To make up for it, he decided to take me to my favorite area of London called Covent Garden for dinner. Covent Garden is a huge piazza with people from all over the world attending operas, shopping, and full of street performers for entertainment. So we get to dinner, an Italian restaurant, order food and a bottle of wine. We reminiscence about our trip, how far we had come together and how happy we were with each other. Steven asks me a random question, would I marry him if he asked? I said of course! I guess thats all he need to hear as he pulled out my wedding ring, opened the box and said “Marry me then.” Of course I burst into tears and said yes, but I still give him a hard time to this day for not going down on his knees! So many emotions ran through my mind then, and I was truly happy. Steven proposed to me halfway across the world in my favorite city, in my favorite area of London and a gorgeous wedding ring. It was perfect and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
HOW WE GOT ENGAGED...

HER STORY
HIS STORY
How could I forget. We were taking a vacation to Europe…I didn’t really have a plan…just knew that I would propose when the time “felt right”. I suppose my biggest concern at the time was making sure i would get through various security check points with the ring being undetected. Once we arrived to London, I had about 10 days to come up with a plan. On day 4 we were taking a romantic walk along the River Thames and the weather was perfect…our conversation was flowing and i had the ring in my pocket…perfect timing i thought…until Farzana made an observation that would thwart my plan… “Ewwww, look at all the trash!” she said. Sure enough, there was a heap of floating debris and litter floating near the shore…strike 1 I thought. Strike 2 followed shortly thereafter. We took a train to Paris, one of the most romantic cities in the world I thought…until we got there that is…we were met by gypsies and beggars at the train station. Then during our tour of this beautiful city, it rained the entire time. Even the Eiffel tower was flawed…architecturally speaking it was a marvel, but with the rain and armed guards surrounding it…the ring stayed in my pocket. It wasn't until our final day in London that it “felt right.” As we sat casually in one of London’s hot spots called Covent Garden, we dined with locals and other tourists having a great Italian meal in the courtyard. The weather was perfect and the conversation was deep. We both were sort of lost in the conversation and I remember thinking THIS IS IT! I don’t remember exactly how I asked but I remember taking out the ring and watching tears flowing from her beautiful eyes…the rest his history!
